BOMBED CHURCH
FUND FOR NEW BUILDING STARTED NEXT DAY
CHILDREN'S SUCCESS
I After Our Lady of Victories' Church, Kensington, was bombed by a Nazi night raider, the four younger sons of Dr. Halliday Sutherland, the well-known doctor and writer —Peter, Vincent, Francis, and Dick, aged from 17 to 12—organised the new church building fund, states "The Post's" London correspondent.
They took up their stand with collecting boxes on the following evening and within less than two hours had gathered in £5. Thus encouraged, they continued their collection from the crowd of sightseers in the courtyard, taking turns to go on duty. A week later the proceeds had reached £120.
Dr. Halliday Sutherland recently visited New Zealand, where his sister, Mrs. Douglas Allison, lives at Hora Hora, near Cambridge.
