SUMMER TIME IN BRITAIN

DECISION BY GOVERNMENT

(Received October 25, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, October 24. Announcing in the House of Commons the Government's decision to extend Summer Time through the winter, the Home Secretary, Mr. Morrison, said that the step had been decided on as a result of the special circumstances now obtaining. Representations had been made from many quarters, including organisations of employees and trade unionists, in favour of continuing summer time through the winter months for the duration of the war. The decision means that darkness on the shortest day will not fall till 5.20 p.m.
