HOME GUARD AT SEATOUN
With the object of stimulating interest in the Home Guard in the Sea-
toun district, representatives of the National Service Department explained the purpose and responsibilities of Home Guard units to a largely-attend-ed meeting in the school last night. Mr. R. Sinel, organiser of the Home Guard, and Mr. J. C. Hay gave an outline of its functions. • The move-1 ment. they said, had, been urged upon the Government by reason of the fact : that thousands of people were wanting to do something more specific to- ; ward? the war effort than they were i ; doing at present. : j ; At. the conclusion of the meeting j about 60 recruits, joined-.up. ■■■. ! HUTT ROAD ACCIDENT A car proceeding towards Wellington along the Hutt Road struck part of the structure of the.Kaiwarra ramp at about 5.40 p.m. yesterday and two of its occupants were taken to hosjpital by an ambulance which happened ■to be travelling over the same route jsoon afterwards. The injured persons 'were Mrs. M. Arnaud, 31 McFarlane Street, injuries to right leg and shock, : and Mrs. E. Lash, 11 Goring Street, ' fractured left arm,. injury to left ankle, and shock.. .The car was driven by Mr.. H.-A. Beauchamp, who suffered bruises and shock. The car was badly damaged. . . ■
