THE PETROL RATION

MOTORISTS' VIEW

A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT

"ENTITLED TO MORE"

The belief that petrol consumers were entitled to a more generous allowance of petrol than that announced by the Minister of Supply was expressed by Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of the Automobile Association (Wellington), today. | Mr. Batt based his contention on the very large stocks now on hand (the present stocks being almost equivalent to the maximum holding capacity 'of all bulk supply tanks throughout |New Zealand), and on the very logical land reasonable arguments that had i been placed before the Government re- | cently by all interests concerned and |to which satisfactory or convincing reI plies have not so far been given by the Government. "I can say, as chairman of the Autoi mobile Association and also knowing ! the views of organised motoring throughout the whole of New Zealand, that motorists have been as ready and I willing to make sacrifices as any other j section of the community to support the Government and Great Britain in their war effort," Mr. Batt said. "I J ! therefore feel justified in claiming on \ ! behalf of motorists generally that their persistence in advocating at least similar allowances to those pertaining lin other parts of the Empire, cannot jbe construed into embarrassing the Government or as an act of disloyalty in whatever sense it may be described. In conclusion, I can only add that the j very small increase in consumption I that is now provided for will be a great disappointment to motorists throughout the whole of New Zealand."
