SOLDIERS' DEPENDANTS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —During the last sitting of Parliament I awaited unavailingly to hear some member take up the question of paying the cost of living bonus to soldier's wives, as paid to award workers and civil servants. As far as I know it costs the soldier's wife and children just as much for the necessaries of life as an award worker, or the civil servant's wife, so why the differentiation? Is it because the above-men-tioned workers are organised, and the soldiers, being overseas, leave it to the Government to see that the "equality of sacrifice" is equal? Soldiers' wives and families are already on reduced incomes, and with the increased cost of living, they are forced to make further sacrifices. Could you please inform me if it is the intention of the Government not to pay the cost of living bonus to soldiers' wives?—l am, etc., EQUALITY.
