The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) will leave for Christchurch. this evening, and, in company with the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan), he will visit a number of factories there. Mr. Fraser will be entertained by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee tomorrow evening, and on Thursday-evening he will speak on "New Zealand at War" at the annual meeting and dinner of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Mr. P. L. Brady, of Wellington, a ! well-known retired business man, has [been appointed honorary organiser and secretary of the Wellington metropolitan ssctirir. of the Dominion-wide campaign by the provincial patriotic councils to raise £1,000,000, and Mr. J. Ward, late Government audit inspector, has been appointed honorary treasurer. Regret at the death of Mr. A. Warburton, a member of the Automobile Association for 17 years-and a memjber of the executive for 15 years, was expressed by the chairman, Mr. E. A. Batti at the annual meeting of the association last night. Mr. A. C. Kitto, who has been presiident of the Wellington Centre of the |New Zealand Amateur Athletic Asso|ciation for 16 years, declined to accept nomination for the office at the annual meeting of the centre last night, and, on his motion, Mr. J. W. Heenan wa3 elected to the position. Tributes were paid by speakers to the great services rendered to athletics by both Mr. Kitto and Mr. Heenan, especially cordial thanks being given to Mr. Kitto for all he had done for the sport. The centre owed Mr. Kitto a great deal, said the secretary (Mr. A. D. Rowse), and the meeting decided to nominate him as president and life member of the N.Z.A.A.A. Relatives and friends waiting to meet members of the party of N.Z.E.F. soldiers . who arrived in •Wellington this morning, having been invalided jhome from Egypt, included the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin). He was present to meet a nephew, Private E. V. Morrish, of Whangarei. Mr. J. W. Connell, school agricultural instructor in the Waikato, has been appointed senior instructor in agriculture and supervisor of manual and technical training to the Taranaki Education Board.Mr. W. H. P. Barber was made a life member of the Automobile Association. (Wellington) at the annual meeting last night. Though 80 years old, said the chairman, Mr. E. A. Batt, Mr. Barber was still an active motorist. ■ He was the last link with foundation workers of the association. He was the third life member, with Messrs. Claude Banks and Ivan Wilson. Mr. J. P. Whatman, senior supervisor of mails at the Christchurch Post Office, retired yesterday after 40 years' service with the Department. He will be succeeded by Mr. H; D. McLeod, of Timaru. Mr. Whatman was previously at the Dunedin, Wellington, and Timaru offices. He has taken .a prominent part in charity work in Christchurch, and for 12 years served on the committee of the Nurse Maude Association.
