FALSE PRETENCES & THEFT

Sentences totalling nine months' imprisonment with hard labour were imposed upon Lawrence Albert Seivers, a labourer, aged 28, who appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, and pleaded guilty to one charge of false pretences at Palmerston North, two charges of theft of radio sets at Paimerston North, and one of theft of a radio set at Feilding. Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan, who prosecuted, said that Seivers had hired a rental car and gone to Palmerston North. The radio sets were taken out on trial and disposed of to dealers. Mr. A. J. Mazengarb, who appeared for Seivers, said that the question of restitution to the second-hand dealers was under consideration when the complaint was lodged with the police.
