AUCKLAND, October 4.
On two summons charges of selling good., at a price higher than that fixed under the Price Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, Ullathorne Hartridge. and Company. Ltd., were fined by Mr. J. Morling, S.M., £2 and costs on one charge and ordered to pay costs 10s plus one guinea rolicitor's fee on the other.
Mr. Meredith, prosecuting, said the defendants were leather grindery merchants, and in April last they sold 99 yards of backing cloth at Is 9£d a yard instead of Is 4d a yard-without the consent of the Price Tribunal. The second case concerned the sale of 123 yards of combined lining at 2s Id a yard instead of Is 6d a yard. Mr. Meredith said the maximum penalty provided was three months' imprisonment or a fine of £100.
The defending counsel, Mr. Cleal, said there was no question of profiteering. The defendants had since "been authorised to charge Is 94d and 2s 2d respectively.
