RECRUITS MARCH
DEPARTURE FOR CAMP
PARADE THROUGH CITY
The sun broke through Wellington's southerly storm clouds this morning in time to give the draft of 4th Reinforcement recruits fine weather for their march from Area Headquarters, Buckle Street, to the railway station, where they entrained for Trentham Mobilisation Camp. The long column —it contained over 700 men —was headed by the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. The route followed was down Taranaki Street and along Jervois Quay to the station, but although they did not pass through the maincity streets, the recruits had a good send-off from a large crowd. Trains will arrive from northern districts this afternoon bringing recruits bound for Burnham. A train from Napier is due at 4 pjn., one from Auckland and the Main Trunk line at 4.35 p.m., and one from New Plymouth at 5.55 p.m. The men coming by these trains, together with the Wellington quota, will make up a North Island draft 560 strong to go south by the steamer express tonight. Wellington recruits bound for Papakura and also the 100 men for Burnham will march from Buckle Street to the neighbourhood of the station and the Ferry Wharf at 7 p.m. This parade also will be led by the R.N.Z.A.F. Band, and the route followed will be the same as for this morning's march.
