UNFIT VOLUNTEERS

MUST BE REGISTERED

"There seems to be a fairly widespread belief," said the Minister of National Service (the Hon. R. Semple), today, "that men who have volunteered for service with the Armed Forces and been found to fall short of the required physical standard are not required to register as members of the General Reserve, or to be in possession of a certificate pf enrolment: such,. however, is not the case..

"Men who are discharged from the Forces as medically unfit, after service overseas, are not members of the Reserve, but others who have volunteered (whether for overseas service or home defence) and been classified as medically unfit, either before or after the commencement of training, are required to be enrolled and, if they have not already done soy; -must send in their registration forms at once. ■ .

"Men posted to Territorial units should retain their certificates of enrolment throughout their period of service (for they are still members of the Reserve), but those who have actually been attested and found fit for overseas service should return their certificates to the Director of National Service for cancellation;"
