FIRST GEORGE MEDAL
BRAVE AIR-RAID WARDEN
LONDON, September ,30,
The first award of the George Medal since this honour was created by the King has been made-to Patrick King, of Northumberland.
Mr. King is employed by a colliery company, and he and his wife are airraid wardens. Whenever a warning was sounded Mr. King was in the habit of taking a blind woman from her home to a shelter. In a recent raid bombs fell on the house before Mr. King could reach the woman, and she was buried. Although bombs were still falling, Mr. King set to work to try to free her. A rescue squad arrived later, and with their assistance Mr.'King got the woman out.
Mi". King served in the Durham Light Infantry during the last war, and still receives treatment for the wounds he received then.
