GIFT PLANES

FUND NOW CLOSED

LAST DONATIONS

"THE POST" LIST £13,346

The Gift Plane Fund to present fighting planes to the Royal Air Force in appreciation of the splendid defence of Britain made by the Force, was officially closed last night. Today "The Post" acknowledges contributions received by mail and since the publication of the list yesterday afternoon. These bring the total received to £13,346 11s lOd, a most creditable Wellington quota for the total of £100,000 which it is expected will be sent from New Zealand. The list contains some interesting examples of the widespread support which this appeal has received. For instance, a donation of £2 10s is made by "National Superannuation." The donor explains: "This is my second instalment from the National Superannuation Fund, not yet received. The first, before I had received it, went to the Red, Cross. But something has Jco be done, although my income is less than that of many workers." The writer adds that he has been a friend and subscriber of the "Evening Post" sinice 1891, and is now nearly 80 years old "I went through hard times in the early eighties, but by the mercy; of the God of our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I have never waited for bread, and never shall." £ s. d.
