CHIEF POSTMASTER

MR. F. C. NIND RETIRES

Mr. F. G. Nind, Chief Postmaster at Wellington, retired from the service yesterday on superannuation, having completed 41 years in the Department. He is a native of Dunedin, where he. commenced as a telegraph message boy in 1899, and remained there for some years as a telegraphist. He has had a wide experience in all branches of the service" having been transferred 16 times, reaching the positions of superintendent of the telegraph branch at Palmerston North and Christchurch, and later Chief Postmaster at Oamaru, Timaru, Invercargill, and Wellington.

Mr. Nind has been a highly-re-spected officer, both for his attention to the requirements of the public and for his sympathetic and close interest in the staffs under his control.

He is succeeded by Mr. F. W. Mathews, who has been Deputy Chief Postmaster for the last six years..
