AXIS TALKS IN ROME

CHINESE PAPER'S COMMENT

(Received September 26, 11.30 a.m.)

CHUNGKING, September 25,

The recent Axis conference in Rome revealed' the increasing strength of Britain and also indicated that the European war might spread, according to the influential Chinese daily, the "Takung Pao."

"Germany is suffering a setback in the war with Britain," says the newspaper, "and is therefore anxious to extend the area of the war and also strengthen the Axis. On the other hand, as a result of closer AngloAmerican co-operation the strength of Britain is daily increasing."
