OFFICERS APPOINTED
NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE
OFFICER
The Wellington Harbour Board last evening appointed Mr. E. W. Reed, lately secretary to the board, to be chief executive officer.
Mr. N. J. Oliver becomes secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. W. Ward, assist-j ant secretary, and Mr. H. W. Prince, chief clerk. .Mr. Reed joined the service of the Harbour Board in August, 1902, as a cadet in the head office, and was transferred to the accounts department in the following year. He left with the first forces to leave N*w Zealand in the last war, for Samoa, returned to the Dominion in 1915, and almost at once left with the Expeditionary Force, serving in Egypt and France i until February, 1919, when he returned with the rank of captain. Resuming his duties with the board, Mr. Reed rose through various positions to that of assistant accountant and cashier in November, 1936. A year later he was appointed acting secretary at head office, which position was confirmed in January, 1938, and which he has filled up to his present appointment.
Mr. Reed has taken an active interest in sport, particularly tennis, and was for some years treasurer and a member of the executive of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association. He is a member of the committee of the Hataitai Bowling Club.
