WELLINGTON'S PART

APPEAL BY THE MAYOR

Referring today to the decision to transmit £ 100,000 ~ to. London, the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) said now that official action had been taken he was released from the restriction placed on him yesterday. He was now able to open an immediate appeal for funds for the assistance of the victims of the German outrages on London. "The money received," said Mr. Hislop, "will go directly through the appropriate channels to the Lord Mayor of London's fund established for this purpose. I am sure all citizens will be anxious to contribute immediately to this great cause. Particularly do I want to emphasise that on an occasion like this he gives twice who gives quickly. Donations may be sent to the City Treasurer, Town Hall, or to any ! branch of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund in any part of the province. Any surplus above our actual quota, which has not yet been determined, will be held for similar purposes or for the help of civilians or troops, according to the circumstances. I am glad to acknowledge the first donation sent immediately the announcement was made of the opening of the fund, namely, ten guineas from the staff of Messrs. C. Smith, Ltd., Wellington. "It would be a splendid thing for Wellington to fill its entire quota in twenty-four hours. Let's see that we can do it. ' I understand the Wellington City quota will be approximately £3000. Surely we can fill this in a day."
