MODERATE WINDS

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate southerly to easterly winds. Weather continuing dull with occasional light rain and drizzle.

The forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon/today by the Meteorological Office for the ensuing 24 hours, is for moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly winds from Cook Strait northwards, light to moderate and variable in the south, but-with north-westerlies gradually predominating. The weather will be fair over the southern portion of the South Island, elsewhere continuing dull and misty, with occasional rain or drizzle. Temperatures will be moderate in the north and cool in the south, with frosts inland and morning fogs on the east coast.

Pressure has been high over the South Island, while'an ill defined and quite shallow depression has remained stationary over the North Island and the northern Tasman Sea. Winds yesterday were from between north-east and south-cast, mainly moderate, but strong to gale force about Cook Strait and in the far north. South of Nelson and Marlborough the weather was fair to fine, but elsewhere conditions were unsettled < with scattered rain or drizzle. Temperatures were moderate to cool. Christchurch and Dunedin experienced fine weather, but in the other two centres it was cloudy with rain at times, Auckland reporting three points and Wellington four. A moderate southerly in Wellington maintained cool temperatures, the maximum being 52.3 degrees and the minimum 44.4 degrees.
