RADIO SOLOS
MR. C. SHIRRIFFS WINS AGAIN
Radio vocal solos for men and for .wOmen were the principal competitive items heard at last night's Town Hall concert of the Wellington Competitions Society's annual festival. Mr. < w iCiair Shirriffs, of Ashhurst, who has had considerable _ success in previous classes at the festival, scored again in the men's radio solo, beating the other* recalled competitor, Mr. Ramon F. Opie, of Wellington, by, a single point. There were 16 entries in this class. The women's radio solo attracted 27 .entries, and the winner was Miss Vesta ■i. • bfemanuel, of Wellington, who also won :. by a single point, the second placed .competitor being Miss Eirene Halbert, of, Wellington. The four finalists broadcast from 2YC and their performances were, judged iii the Town Hall through a radio reproduction. Mr. George Morrison, Johnsonville, was the winner in the men's sacred solo class, in which Mr. Shirriffs was placed third equal with another singer. An interesting class was that for women reading at sight The winner was Miss Halbert. The grand picture story ballet contest—the most important ballet class of the festival—was completed last night, the winners being the team entered by the Dorothy Daniels Academy of Dancing.
