"WHEN WE ARE MARRIED."
"A Yorkshire farcical comedy" is what Mr. J. Priestley calls "When We Are Married," and in so doing orders his words with a due nicety; for in what he has written Yorkshire is an element more important than, farce. "When We Are Married" enchants the audience, disarms the critics, and keeps the box office' busy,.'lt.is just what is wanted in these times, and the Wellington Repertory Theatre (Inc.) is to be congratulated on its choice "When We Are Married" is to be staged for six performances in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall under the direction of Leo dv Chateau. The season will start on Tuesday next, and will conclude on the following Saturday, with a matinee and evening performance. The proceeds from the matinee will be devoted to patriotic funds. "When We Are Married" is set in the West Riding thirty-five years ago. Three ultra-respectable lowermiddle class couples meet to celebrate their silver wedding; six men and women who were married at the same time at the same place and by tlie same clergyman. But it now turns out that the clergyman was not properly qualified, and that in consequence, they have' been living in sin. The revelation is at first disconcerting and the development of the reactions of those concerned to the disclosure keeps the spectators, holding their sides until the final curtain. Box plan and other particulars are advertised.
The services of Dr. I. A. Alexander, senior house surgeon at the Wellington Hospital, are to be retained for orthopaedic work.
