ATLANTIC DEFENCES
(British Official Wireless.) (Received August 29, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, August 28. A separate command for Canada's defence forces in the Atlantic area and along the approaches to the St. Lawrence River has been established, and Major-General W. H. P. Elkins, whose charge will include also Canada's troops now on duty in Newfoundland, has been appointed to the post. This development represents a major step in the defence of what the Minister of Defence (Lieutenant-Colonel Ralston) has described as "our most vulnerable area."
