A VISIT TO PORTUGAL
The Duke of Kent's visit to the Portuguese eighth centenary celebrations was highly successful, says the ' "Paily Telegraph." The celebrations •were colourful but not, it seems, strenuous. As they started on June 1 and continue until December, it has been possible to make them fairly leisurely. It was a pity that time and distance prevented the Duke of Kent ' visiting Oporto, the greatest stronghold of British influence in Portugal. r One of its notable features is the last English "Factory," a magnificent eight- , eenth-century building. It also boasts a general outfitters known as the Casa Ingleza, which displays a remarkable , range of British tailoring and outfitting. In the middle of its principal , window is a dummy clothed in sports coat, salmon-pink trousers, bright yel- ; low shoes, and green open-neck shirt. This typically British figure is, how- , ever, that of a negro.
