NEW SECRETARY
MANUFACTURERS' FEDERATION
The appointment of Mr. D. I. Mac? Donald as general secretary of the Ne\tf Zealand Manufacturers' Federation is announced. Born in 1904, Mr. Mac Donald was educated at Timaru Boys' High School and Canterbury College, where ha graduated as Master of Commerce in! 1929. He is also a feljow of the Ne\tf Zealand Institute of Secretaries. Mr. | Mac Donald has been secretary of the Canterbury . Employers' Association! (Christchurch) for the last ten years. He has become one of the leading employers' advocates in conciliation council and the Court of Arbitration, boing identified particularly with re* gulations relating to awards in thai manufacturing industries. Mr. MacDonald is also secretary of a num.-. ber of other trade associations. In 1938 he was chosen by the New Zealand Employers' Federation t« attend a meeting in London of the governing body of the International Labour Office, and visited factories in England, Scotland, and America, and' studied modern production methods. He is a member of the Canterbury Rugby Union executive, and a very keen supporter of the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society, of which he, with Professor Shelley and one of two others, was a founder in 1928. j In view of the great expansion that has taken place in secondary industries during the last few years, and" the many difficult problems arising therefrom, the appointment of a many of Mr. Mac Donald's ability is considered significant, and augurs well fo< the future of the federation.
