TENNIS TO GO ON
ASSOCIATION'S DECISION
Tennis would go on during the war, said Mr. R. P. Cooper, chairman of the management committee of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, at the association's meeting last night. Last season enlistments had little effect upon the game. Club membership had now been affected, but not to the extent of preventing competitive play, and he hoped the position would not go to that extreme. Inter-club tournaments would continue —there had been rather a surfeit of tournaments last season—but they should hold at least one tournament in the coming season. Mr. H. L. Wise remarked that revenue from ground fees had been steadily declining at Miramar, and he advocated public hire of the courts, not only on week days but on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Ground fees would be even less in the coming season, he added. Mr. Cooper assured Mr. Wise that his suggestion would receive the consideration of the management committee.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —
President, Mr. G. C. White; hon. vicepresidents, Messrs. W. P. Walker, B. Sutherland, L. C. Blundell, E. Salmond, D. A. Ewen, D. A. Syme; vice-presi-dents, Miss K. Nunneley and Messrs. J. A. B. Howe, J. L. Macduff, and A. C. W. Mantell-Harding; management committee, Messrs. H. L. Wise, R. P. Cooper, L. H. Pollock, K. Dunnett, W. W. Stirling, G. Gooch, C. R. Lyon, G. J. Merrington, H. N. Sturrock; hon. secretary, Mr. T. N. Foden; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. J. Wilson; hon. auditors, Messrs. Petherick, Webb, and Mackersey.
