PATRIOTIC FUNDS

PROVINCIAL TOTAL

STREET DAY TOMORROW

The vital importance of building the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund to a very substantial figure to meet constant and widely-varied present needs of men in camp and on active service, and to provide for their rehabilitation on their return to New Zealand, was stressed by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, and other speakers at the meeting of the Provincial Patriotic Council yesterday afternoon. The City Treasurer, Mr. B. O. Peterson, as honorary treasurer to the council, stated that the funds at August 28 totalled £9517 10s 3d, made up thus:—Cash at bank, £1462 10s 3d; imprests, £1055; fixed deposits, £5000; Post Office Savings Bank, £2000. . Provincial funds, said Mr. T. Jordan (Masterton), had so far been given much less attention and public support than the very minimum needs demanded, and the necessity for a great strengthening of such funds was plain. Tomorrow a street day and general appeal to the public to -contribute to the provincial patriotic funds will be made in the Wellington metropolitan area, i.e., the City, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Petone, Eastbourne, Johnsonville, and Makara County.
