NATIONAL SECURITY TAX
1 (To the Editor.)
Sir, —The question asked by Mr. Boswell in Parliament last week regarding allegations of double national security taxation was wrongly framed. The most general complaint by the public is not against a double charge, but is against the unequal levy on two sections of the public. Let me explain. "A" is a man in active work on salary or v/ages; "B" is a man now on superannuation. "A" paid the national security charge on ten days (since the Act came into operation) to August 1, while "B" paid (or will pay by the end of this week) on three full months to August 1. Mr. Nash's answer to Mr. Boswell contained nothing we do not know, except in the last few lines as reported. There he saitf that when the tax ceases it will stop for each class of taxpayer on the same date. I point out that this procedure will leave the other income man ("B") still having paid for two months and twenty days more than "A." This is an injustice.—l am, etc.,
ONE OF THE VICTIMS,
