LIKELY TO IMPROVE

WEATHER OUTLOOK

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds. Some occasional light

drizzle,

but weather improving

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for light to moderate north-westerly winds, with, temporary changes to south-westerlies in parts of the South Island. Occasional rain or drizzle will extend from Wellington and Taranaki to parts of the Hawke's Bay and Auckland Provinces, but the weather will improve and elsewhere it will be fine. It will become cloudy again, however, in the far south-west, and showers will develop there during tomorrow. Temperatures will be moderate.

The weak disturbance crossing the South Island is now in the neighbourhood of Cook Strait and has remained practically stationary. Northerly to north-westerly winds prevailed yesterday. They were light in the Auckland Province, but elsewhere were moderate to strong, gale force being reached at times about Cook Strait. Some scattered rain fell in the west and south of the South Island, but the weather otherwise was fair with rather mild temperatures. Pressure this morning was rising in the south and the northerly winds had decreased somewhat in force. Except for some rain in the Taranaki and Wellington Provinces the weather is now fine. Greymouth reports 107 points of rain, Puysegur Point 93, and Westport 86. Auckland and Dunedin had fine weather yesterday, while in Christchurch and Wellington it was cloudy. Northerly winds were strong in Wellington, but light in the other main centres. Temperatures at Kelburn yesterday ranged between 56.2 and 49.8 degrees, and 48 points of rain had been recorded up to 9 a.m. today.
