GERMAN COMMUNIQUE

LONDON, August 26,
A Berlin communique states: "Fifteen hundred bombs were dropped on Britain last night. German bombers yesterday successfully attacked an aerodrome at Warmwell, north-west of Portland. A violent air battle ensued. A German plane sank a 4000----ton merchantman 223 miles west of Land's End. Numerous planes last night flew over Birmingham, Kingston, and Coventry, where they bombed aircraft factories and armament works. Violent explosions and fires were observed.
"British planes indiscriminately bombed non-military objectives in Germany and one raider was shot down after attacking Berlin.
"The enemy yesterday lost 72 planes, and 14 of ours are missing. "A submarine sank 46,170 tons of enemy merchant shipping on the latest trip. This submarine altogether has sunk 88,856 tons of shipping. Another submarine has sunk four merchantmen o£ a total tonnage of smnrnvimately |0,000 tons."
