LOW-PRICED COPRA.

W. R. Carpenter and Co. (Fiji), Ltd., of which the name was changed from Brown and Joske, Ltd., last year, shows a net profit for the year ended March 31, of £8819. This compares with £150 for 1938-39, and £4401 for 1937-38. The directors state that the increase in profits has been fortuitous and demonstrates the uncertainties of island trading. A contributing factor was the abnormal provision for depreciation in the previous accounts. They add that the outlook for the coming year is obscure owing to the low ruling prices for copra and the difficulties in obtaining shipping.
