EXAMPLE OF COURAGE
LATE MR. E. H. DALTON
Mr. Ezra Hill Dalton, a returned soldier of the war of 1914-18, died suddenly at the Red Cross Hospital, Hobson Street, and the large attendance at his funeral today, both at the graveside and at the mortuary chapel, Vivian Street, bore eloquent testimony to the high regard in which he was held. The services were conducted by the Rev. Harry Squires, City Missioner.
The late Mr. Dalton bore his war disability with the greatest fortitude. He was shot in the spine in France and was crippled as a result. On his return to New Zealand he spent two years under the care of the Red Cross Society in the Trentham Hospital, and ever since the Red Cross Hospital'was established in Hobson. Street in 1923 he had been a patient there.
Matron Mcßae, of the Rod Cross Hospital, said today that Mr. Dalton was a shining example of courage and cheerfulness. Having suffered as he had, it took a lot of courage to face life the way he had done. Already she had received a number of letters and telephone calls expressing regret at. his death. He was beloved by all, patients and visitors alike.
Among those present at the funeral were several of the patients of the pital, a number tf ex-patients, and friends of the deceased, as well as Mr. J. H. Thorp, representing the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association, Captain M. S. Galloway, Lady Myers, Mrs. G. W. Guthrie, Miss M. Low, Matron Mcßae, Miss Ewart, Miss Pilcher, and Miss Greensill, representing the Red Cross Society.
