MR. HERBERT WILLIAMS

The death occurred last Sunday, at his residence, 12 Esmonde Road, Takapuna, of Mr. Herbert Williams, late chief accountant in the New Zealand Railways.

Mr. Williams, who was born in March, 1863, joined the railway service as a casual employee in March, 1882, and two years later was appointed to the permanent staff as porter in charge at Mount Eden. In February, 1885, he was promoted to the position of stationmaster, serving successively in that capacity at Mount Eden, Drury, Pukekohe, Morrinsville, Ngaruawahia, Frankton, Thames, and Rotorua.
