RESTAURANT CHARGES

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—There was more than a hint| in a news item in the "Evening Post" on Monday that the cost of meals in some restaurants in the city would) soon be again raised. The reason given was the recent 5 per cent, addition to the wages of workers affected by awards of the Arbitration Court. An immediate increase in the cost of living was, of course, inevitable, for when the wage spiral begins to revolve living costs follow inexorably. However, a question that is now occupying the thoughts of many of your readers is: Is it permissible for any business to increase the price of its service to the public, or of the goods it offers for sale, without reference to the Pricefixing Tribunal?—l am, etc., DINER.
