RUGBY, August 14,

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood) announced in the House of Commons last night that he would not persist in the proposal to tax newspapers, books, and periodicals. A Press that was not only free, but also widely distributed, was necessary at this time. Sir Kingsley Wood added, that books should be exempt from the tax, at least for the present.
