OBITUARY
MAHARAJAH OF MYSORE! LONDON, August 3. The death has occurred of the Maharajah of Mysore. H.H. Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Bahadur, Maharajah' of Mysore, was born in 1884 and succeeded his father in 1895, being invested with full ruling powers by Lord Curzon at Mysore in 1902. Mysore is second only to Hyderabad among the Indian States. He ruled over 6.500,000 people, and was reputed to have an annual revenue of £2,500,000. His fortune was once estimated at £80,000,000. In 1936 he made a holiday visit to England, moving about in a special train and paying £ 1000 in railway fares alone. He was, at the Delhi Durbar, and on August 8, 1927, he celebrated the silver jubilee of his reign. He received the G.C.S.I. in 1907 and the G.B.E. in 1917 and was honorary colonel of King George's Own Light Cavalry. A great sportsman, he had considerable skill at squash rackets.
