WATER SHORTAGE
. SERIOUS PROSPECT IN SYDNEY (Received August 1, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, July. 31. As a result of prolonged dry weather in the catchment area, Sydney's water supply will be in a serious condition if substantial rain does not fall soon, declared the chief engineer of the Metropolitan Water Board today. He predicted that the board would shortly completely prohibit hoses for gardens, golf links, tennis courts, and-similar places, and prohibit: water for public baths and for washing vehicles and flushing street channels.-
