NEW CHURCH
SEATOUN PROJECT
Facts and figures provided by speakers at a meeting of the building fund committee of St. George's Church, Seatoun, last night showed that, in spite of many difficulties, satisfactory • progress had been made with the project to build a new church. It was stated that of the £3000 required before the building was commenced, approximately £2300. had been obtained.
Mr. E. A. Thorne, who presided in the absence .of the chairman of the committee, Mr. J. E. Ramsay, stated that it would be far better to wait till the £3000 was obtained before anything concrete was done. Promises of financial assistance had been received from a number of people and organisations, including . the ladies' guild, which, had given £5, making a total of £25 for the year.
Lieut-Colonel Stace asked if they could say when the new church would be built. •
The chairman, said he thought that something might be done before the end of the year, otherwise it would mean waiting for at least another two years. *
Mr. John Williamson asked whether any provision had been made for a children's section in the church, and Mr. Thorne replied that there was some mention of this on the plans.
Mr. Thorne also said that money had been provided to make alterations to the present church so that it could be used as a hall.
„.It was decided to hold a further meeting; in the near future.
