JOYNT SCROLL DEBATING CONTEST.

The Inter-University Joynt Scroll debating contest will be held in the Training College Hall, Kelburn, on Saturday. In the afternoon the motion to be deplored." Canterbury University College, represented by Mr. J. S. Rumbold and Mr. B. J, Drake, will take the affirmative; the negative will be taken by Mr. K. W. Orcniston and Mr. J. A. Pollok, representing Lincoln Agricultural- College. In the evening two debates will be held. Massey Agricultural College, represented by Mr. D. M. Smith and Mr. R. D. Bamford, will support the motion "That party government has failed," while Victoria University College, represented by Mr P. J. Sheehan and Mr. H. G. Bowyer, will take the negative. The second motion will be "That the United States of America , should take a permanent place in European politics." The affirmative will be taken by Mr. H. L. Gibson and Mr. E. T- Dick (Otago University), and Miss Dorothea Morrell and Mr. B. Smith (Auckland University College) will take the negative. The judges will be the Hon. W. E. Barnard, Dr. C. E. Beeby, and Mr. P. H. Bass. These debates are held in Wellington only once in five years.
