DIED ON SAME DAY

TWO TARANAKI PIONEERS Two nonagenarians who wer pioneers of South Taranaki, Mr. Wil liam Russell, aged 94, and Mr. E. F Melvern, aged 93, died on the sami day at Hawera and Auckland respec tively. Mr. Russell was at the Cali fornian goldfields in their most stir ring days and Mr. Melvern was i member of the old Armed Constabu lary and was at Parihaka when T< Whiti and Tohu were arrested by < volunteer force under John Bryce Later both Mr. Russell and Mr. 'Mcl vern settled in Hawera.
