COOK ISLANDS

PATRIOTIC CONTRIBUTIONS

The people of the Cook Islands are giving splendid assistance to New Zealand's patriotic effort. There have been two contributions totalling £100 from the arikis, chiefs, Maori people, and island council of Atiu, and recently a package of knitted comforts arrived from the . islands. Since then the National Patriotic Fund Board has re-! ceived through the Cook Islands Department a cheque for £500 from the J European and native people of Rarotonga. These gifts provide another example of the close way in which the British Empire is knit together in times of crisis and also the way in which each component part of the Empire is ready and willing "to play its part in the task there is to do.
