HARDHAM CUP

MARIST BROS. 0.8. V. HUTT

In the match between Hutt and Marist Old Boys at the Hutt Recreation Ground the heavy ground affected the play, much of which was confined to the forwards. Hutt held a slight advantage throughout in the scrums and ruck work, with Dutfy, Flanagan, and Stewart doing their share, but when the ball broke Into the open, Marist, with their spoiling tactics, showed to better advantage. Led by Gillespie, who stood out as the best forward of the game, and assisted by Stanaway and Meadows, Uxe Green pack had a field day in spoiling woik. Hutt made some use of their backs, but the combined work was not impressive under the pressure exercised by the Marist forwards. Foley, on the wing for Hutt, was, however, ready to make the most of any offerings. For Hutt Evans kicked a penalty goal, and for Marist Smith and Higgins scored tries. The result was: Marist Bros. Old Boys 6, Hutt 3. The referee was Mr. A. R. Morice.
