NEGOTIATIONS IN PROGRESS

Prefacing his remarks with the comment that it might not be possible for the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash) to reply to the question he was going to put, Mr. F. W. Doidge (National, Tauranga) when discussing the vote of £39,223 for the Meat Industry Account in the House of Representatives yesterday, referred to a statement made by Mr. T. A. Duncan, chairman of the Meat Producers' Board, at Cambridge, on Tuesday. Mr. Duncan's statement could lead producers to the conclusion that there was a good deal of insecurity regarding future shipments of meat overseas, Mr. Doidge said. Could the Minister give producers any assurance on that point? "I can only say that negotiations are in progress with the British Government," Mr. Nash replied. "That is all."
