ILLEGAL SALE OF LIQUOR
Proceeds from a "bring and buy" stall and coin afternoon held at a recent meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union central branch are to be devoted to buying comforts for soldiers' parcels. The sum of £8 6s was raised. Mrs. Israel presided. One new member was initiated and one transferred from another branch. Reports of various activities were given and the following resolution passed:— "We wish to draw the attention of the Government to the great extent of the illegal sale of liquor in our city, and urge upon them, the stricter enforcement of the liquor law." Extended time 1 was allowed for afternoon tea to permit members and visitors to purchase jams, flowers., and useful articles. Mrs. Davidson, who was in charge of the stall, had the satisfaction of selling most of. her goods. Items were given by Miss Atkinson and Mrs. Castl?. Mesdames Morris, Andrew, Bond, Clapham, Culten. Weldon, Davidson, and Israel were appointed hospital visitors for the month.
