NO MORE LUXURY LINERS TO

BE BUILT

(Received July 24, 9.15 a.m.)

LONDON, July 23,

Outlining the programme for the modernisation and increase of the French mercantile marine, the French Minister of the Navy, Admiral Darlan, said that the shipyards in future will concentrate on the building of passenger and cargo motor-ships with a speed of 20 knots. France would renounce luxury liners like the Normandie. Wealthy persons who wanted to travel quickly would be obliged to use aeroplanes.
