A 14-year-old farmer's daughter and a milkman armed with a shotgun ran out from a dairy and captured two German airmen on the! south-east coast today after their machine had been shot down. . High-explosive bombs damaged three houses in the north-east of England. An enemy bomber was shot down in the north-east of Scotland this afternoon. The Admiralty announces that divebombers of the Fleet Air Arm attacked Bergen yesterday morning and sank an enemy anti-aircraft ship and bombed seaplane bases. A German communique states: "Fighting air patrols on the night of July 22 attacked harbour works, air bases, and searchlight emplacements in Britain and dropped bombs in the harbour at Pembroke, with its oil storage tanks, Chatham, Sheerness, Edinburgh, .Aberdeen, and also' air bases near Portsmouth and on the Bristol Channel. In the English Channel and off the east coast three merchantmen were damaged by bombs."

Another German communique states that enemy planes on the night of July 22 again attacked non-military objectives in northern and western Germany and damaged a church and some houses in one village. One plane was shot down and one German plane is missing. A small U-boat sank 18,000 tons of shipping in a strongly-protected convoy.
