Of a record entry of 64 In the men's. open singles, only 1G remain after last night's play in the Hutt Valley table tennis jchamplonships* held at the M.U. Oddfellows' Hall, Petone. Surprises of the night's play were the defeat of the singles title-holder, Osbaldlston.; (Wellington) in the first round by S. Henderson, and the defeat of the holders of the doubles' title, M. Gosling, and \V. McFarlane (Wellington), by J. Croudis nnd A. Harding. In the single* tin; New Zealand and Wellington representative, K. Boniface, just survived a strong challenge from L.. Corbeit.
