SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

An encouraging response to the appeal for prompt payment of subscriptions was reported by the secretary at the last meeting of the Council of the Wellington Symphony Orchestra. Eight new subscribing members were enrolled and a further effort is being made to increase the number of those who make such an important contribution to the success of the society in this way. Many congratulatory reports were passed on to Mr. de Mauny in regard to the valuable contribution by the orchestra to the "Music Week" celebrations.

The orchestra will give its next con*

cert on August 13, when the English violinist, Maurice Clare, will be heard in the E Minor Mendelssohn Concerto. Mozart's Symphony" No. 40 in G Minor will also be played by the orchestra, and the programme will include songs by Schubert, sung by Mr. L. A. North.
