ENGLISH SPIRIT
"GRIM AND DETERMINED"
Early last month one of the leading executives in a United States manufacturing concern, known the world over, returned to his home country, states the Director of Publicity. He had spent six years in Europe, and described to Pressmen the rapidlychanging scenes in the old world. His comment on the attitude of Britain in the world crisis is contained in the two following paragraphs:—
The English are the most grim and determined of all the belligerents as far as outward appearance is concerned. Evidence of their preparation for invasion is on every hand. There is not a single block in all of London but that signs point to an air raid shelter. The British are prepared for the worst Germany can give. They are determined to see the war through to the end and are not deceived as to the sacrifice ahead. They have an extreme confidence in ultimate victory that will take much more than present reverses to shake.
