BASKETBALL

The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Wellington Basketball Association was held on Monday night.

Miss O. Wharton, who presided, welcomed Miss M. A. Gardner as the representative from the Secondary Schools' Association.

The secretary reported that her Excellency, Lady Galway, patroness of the New Zealand Association, and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop. patron ess of the Wellington Association, had both signified their Intention to be present at ihe

"Field Day" in aid of the Patriotic Fund on August 3.

Horowhenua Association wrote accepting the invitation to play the fourth grade represeti tatlve team on that date. Times were arranged as follows:—Third grade v. Hutt Valley, 2 p.m.; fourths v. Horowhenun. 2.15 p.m.: 1904 v. 1940, 3 p.m.: senior B v. Hutt Valley, 3.15 p.m.; tournament v. travelling learn. 8.30 p.m.

The New. Zealand Baseball (Softball) Association wrote asking for the support of the association with regard to clubs taking up the game during the summer. It was decided to send the Baseball Association a list of secretaries of clubs.

Captains of representative teams were ap pointed as follows: —Senior A. J. Crewes (captain), N. Douglas (vice-captain) : senior B. G. Anderson (captain). M. Scheal (v!ce-cap-tanl) ; fourth grade, .1. Avery (captain), K. Beveridgo (vice-captain). The following officers were appointed for August B:—Scorers and timekeepers, MesdameP V. Allan, \V J. Paul, Mr Crewes. Miss Cooper linesmen, Mrs. Gorringe, Misses Walters, fiooch. Hngan, Worboys, Stepheuson, Cullinß, and Day. It was decided that the funds from the "Field Day" be paid to the Y.W.C.A. Soldiers' Entertainment Fund. Mrs. Calder reported that .T. Simpson, wfio was in hospital, had been replaced by M. Seeley (Dental Clinic) in the senior B team.
