FUTURE OF FRENCH INDUSTRY
A peculiar position now arises with France, states Winchcombe, Carson, wool brokers, Sydney. Presumably her fighting forces will be practically demobilised. In that case, man-power switches from uniforms to civilian apparel. France is. not likely to get wool for the production of goods for her own people, as the British Government cannot now allocate supplies to her. She had fair stocks of the sheep's staple before Germany conquered her army; but they are now enemy property, and their addition to Germany's depleted supplies was no doubt welcome. . .
Will the French be compelled to turn to the use of substitute fibres more extensively? .Of all the great textile countries, France-has shown least expansion in the production of rayon and staple fibre. Germany, however, has very actively developed the output and use of them. She has access to the Scandinavian countries to secure supplies of wood pulp.
