The controversy which has arisen over the powers given to the Direc-tor-General of Information, Sir Keith Murdoch, who himself is head of tlie Melbourne "Herald." has developed into a political crisis and is expected to have serious repercussions among the Country Party Ministers* One of them, Mr. H. V. C. Thorby, who is Postmaster-General and in control of broadcasting, is reported to have clashed with the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, at a meeting of Cabinet today in Sydney. * Mr. Thorby expressed strong resentment at not being consulted and being kept in the dark regarding the regulations gazetted for the control of Press, radio, and films. Mr. Thorby stated after the Cabinet meeting that he was contemplating resigning from the Ministry. He also said that the Leader of the Country Party, Mr. A. G. Cameron, is equally resentful over the Government taking such drastic powers without consultation with him and his colleagues.
