ANOTHER FIRE
BREWERY AT DUNEDIN
OUTBREAK SOON QUELLED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 18. Another fire in a malting house kila at the premises of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., Rattray Street, engaged the attention of the metropolitan fire brigades this evening. The alarm was given at 6.6 p.m., and within a. brief interval the whole' of the fire-fighting resources of the city and suburbs were called in readiness. The outbreak was apparently caused by malt having caught fire under the kiln, which was established at the end of an old block of buildings between Rattray Street and Dowling Street, and though the I blaze had a firm hold at an early stage the brigade did excellent work and the possibility of any extension of the fire was checked almost immediately. The site of the fire was on the opposite side of the road to the disastrous outbreak of June 25, but the firemen were fully aware of the position in the area, and hose leads were run out expeditiously. When the brigade arrived the fire was well established, within the confined area of the kiln, and the calling-up of suburban reserves was more in the way of a precaution against any other outbreak in the city area than a necessity for any additional services at the fire. The outbreak generated terrific heat, but with leads running to the point of operations from below and above the possibility of the blaze spreading was prevented, and within little more than half an hour the first machine had returned to headquarters and others followed at brief intervals. No estimate of the damage could b% given tonight, but it was stated /that" there would be only negligible interference with the firm's production, _ .
